Credit Card Offers

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: Blog, finance, misc - Tags: , ,

How many credit card offer’s do you receive in a week? My last count was 17 credit card offers! Isn’t that crazy? I did a quick search on Google Adwords to find out what the average click pays for the term credit card offer and found out that is $17.76! That means if you search Google for the words credit card offer the ads that come up on the top and on the side are paying almost $20 per click! That is crazy.

Wouldn’t it better to just give that money to the person that wants the credit card offer? IF they are willing to pay that much money to fill your mailbox and for someone to click their ad how much is 1 really hot lead worth?

$100, $1000? I will bet it is in the neighborhood closer to $1000. So why not say Sign up and use our credit card 1 time and we will send you a FAT Check for $1000?

Credit Cards are a lucrative business. I know because I generate some money on my blogs due to people looking for credit cards. So I know it pays but if I was a credit card company I would look at bringing this money straight to my customers and not to fliers that fill the mailbox.

Revolving Credit Lines

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: finance, misc - Tags: , ,

I am often shocked that people don’t consider that having a lot of credit lines open can negatively affect your credit score.

10 - 15% of your credit score comes from the types of credit used. If you have a lot of sources of revolving credit (i.e., credit cards), you can be seen as a credit risk because you have a greater potential of charging up the debt quick.
Let me give you a credit tip. Don’t even think about opening up store credit cards just to get a discount, and if you have any recent store cards, cancel them immediately and get them paid off.

Corn Hole - Baggo

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: families, misc - Tags: , , ,

While I was in San Diego for my sister’s graduation form PLNU, my brother mentioned a game he called Corn Hole. It sounded pretty interesting and lately I have been thinking of something I can play with my kids in the backyard as well as with the church youth and college group.

Corn Hole is a game similar to horseshoes, but with bags that you toss in a hole. My bro says he likes Corn Hole (also called Baggo) much more.

I am considering making my own Corn Hole set. Haven’t decided yet. Anyone ever play Corn Hole? If you live near Houston, we should get together. Although let me warn you. Still today I have never played. Soon, very soon. Now is you time to beat me. It won’t last. Read more…

Save money on Travel

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: Travel, families, finance, misc - Tags: , ,

I travel more than the average person. I would say half of my travels are for work and the other half for pleasure. I like to take a lot of weekend trips with the wife and kids to just get away. A time to relax and get away from the hustle of life.

The other weekend I took my wife to New Orleans for a quick vacation. There is hardly a time when I am not planning a trip. Many people have asked how I do this so cheaply.

Well, it isn’t hard. I research my trips online and use Expedia, Travelocity, and other internet vacation booking sites. As I always have ideas of where and what I want to do, this allows me to look 1-2 times per week for good deals. When I find a good travel deal I am ready to lock it in.

From week to week travel prices can vary by quite a bit. So plan ahead and watch for the travel deals. Travel insurance is also something to look into. Sometimes I purchase it on sites like Orbitz and travelocity. I don’t pay more than $10 - $15 total for travel insurance unless it is a trip over $300. It is worth the risk to me. When I am planning the vacations since I have to be ready to jump on a travel deal sometimes the travel insurance has come in handy in case I must cancel a trip.

Just another way I save money on my travels. More travel saving tips to come.
