The Cab Ride

I read this story today on the web that was pretty powerful.

Here is an excerpt:

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she’d ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

The last couple of paragraphs are very powerful. It is a quick read, if you have a minute please tell me what you think.

PASS ME NOT, O GENTLE SAVIOR

1. Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Refrain:
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou are calling,
Do not pass me by.
2. Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.
3. Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.
4. Thou the spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee,
Whom in Heav’n but Thee.

Hurricanes and Pools

I have the pool cleaned up. As you can see it looked like a port-a-potty that had been used by thousands of people a day for a week at the State Fair.

I had to be in it with the chainsaw. It took a week and a half and a lot of money in chemicals but now our pool looks good. There is some damage to the finish of the pool and we are going to get a quote to fix it. My guess is around 2500 – 3000 possibly a bit more since everything like this is a bit more after a hurricane.

Our power is back on at our home and office. Life is getting back to normal so that is a good.

Here is a picture of the pool after Hurricane Ike with the tree in it..

Now here is a picture with the tree out. See it looks looks like the sewer. To think I was in it and so were the kids.

We are heading back to the war zone caused by Hurricane Ike. Should be there by 5pm. We are told there is no expected date to have power and it could be 3 – 4 weeks still.
The weather has been cooler and we pray that it stays cool.

We will pick up some dry goods and fuel up on our way back to Houston. Thanks for the prayers and kind words. The cell phones are working a bit more.

Sunday – Hurricane Update 9:58pm

Hello! We made it through the storm just fine. Our pool and trees didn’t have fare quite as well. We have no power and no phones (phones very sporadic). It has been crazy to say the least.

I lost a huge Oak tree into my pool and hot tub. The house is just fine. It is definitely like a war zone. Today I took the family to Keller, TX which is near Fort Worth. We are going to pick up some supplies and then head back down to the war zone.

They say it could be up to a month before we have power. More updates to follow on Hurricane Ike and the aftermath.

I am posting this FAST. Power is coming and going OFTEN now. It is back on now but not sure how long.
Love ya!

Winds have steadily become stronger. I am going to get a couple of hours of sleep hopefully. When I wake up I hope to have internet/electricity although they say that over 5 millions people should be without power tomorrow morning.

Rains have not really begun except for a drizzle here and there. I have a few pots of coffee made so I can drink some cold coffee tomorrow!

Should be good and thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

The wind is now whistling through the trees. Getting very loud! Not like a normal storm for sure. I am grinding and making as much coffee as I can. Hmm, maybe that is my coffee pot whistling. ;)
Will need it in the days to come!
