Churches: Get and Keep Visitors

As one who studies church growth I am often amazed at how much we will talk about wanting our churches to grow yet don’t think outside of the box to get and keep visitors.

Church growth isn’t always easy, but we don’t have to make it impossible either. Let me give a simple idea often over looked when trying to reach your church visitors.

Have you ever thought about giving something valuable to each guest that comes to your church? I am not saying a loaf of bread or something like that. I am saying something that will make them think of your church during the week?

Try this idea that I am going to tell you and you will see an improvement on getting and keeping first time visitors. You want the idea? OK, enough chit chat.

Give your guest something valuable like a gift card to your local restaurant or Starbucks. Not $10 or less. In fact $15 is too cheap. You have to give a minimum of $20 but $30 is even better. This gift card MUST be at a place in your neighborhood. Send this out on Monday or Tuesday the SAME week that they visited your church. Do not delay.

Make it worth it and valuable. Better yet see if you can get Starbucks to personalize the cards for your church. It will be well worth it.

Simple as that. You will see an improvement in getting and keeping guests. Now you need to get them plugged in!

When Music Rocks at Church

Isn’t it great when you have an awesome time during the worship at church? Yesterday was one of those days. It was refreshing and exciting. The band really seems to be clicking and the crowd at church was really singing and getting into it.

It really rocked this week!

Politicians: 1 Way to Win : Vision

Politicians these days have it all wrong. We don’t need finger pointing. We need results. We will leave the pointing to the historians. I need to know how we are going to make this world a better place.

Give me your plan and let me decide. I want Senator Obama and Senator McCain to lay out their plans. Point by point. It doesn’t need to be hundreds of pages. Give me your ideas or what I would call your philosophy of government.

What will guide your decisions, how you will act, and let me decide. I do think your past will dictate how you will respond in the future so we do need to see your voting record. If you don’t have a voting record, then show me what you have done in business, at church, with your family, and elsewhere.

Both politicians running for president should take 15 minutes or so and lay out their vision for America. I don’t want to hear 1 word about the other guy. Just layout your easy to follow plan. Share your heart, don’t politicize it but let us see who you are. If you are running for president you must think you have good ideas, so tell us them. If they are good you will win.

Simple as that. Lay out your vision, and people will get on board.

Love your Kids : Get Purpose

I want to think about what is important in life. If you are a sport’s fan, think about that. If your work is your life, think about that. If you are a small business owner, think about that. For me sport’s is easy to think about.

Imagine a winning team. Imagine a team that doesn’t just win, but they win regularly. You know they will be in the running for the pennant ever year. They will not finish with the regular season but will continue on in the playoffs year after year. If it is college football they will consistently be ranked. they will be in a bowl game, and will win a national championship more than others.

What drives a winning team? Is it passion? Many would agree with this. Is it luck? From time to time maybe this is the answer, but you can never count on luck consistently.

What drives success on and off the field? If you look at winning teams, you will find 100% of the time a coach that is PURPOSEFUL. Not some of the time, not most of the time, but ALL the time. This constant drive of purpose flows down through the assistant coaches, onto the players, and it floods the fans.

A winning team is purposeful in everything they do with everyone in the organization. If you want to be successful with your wife or husband, kids, work, finances, church, or anything you have to find this purposefulness.

Finding purpose is being intentional in what you do. In your marriage you have to choose to love your spouse EVERY day. You have to be intentional to prove that love everyday with your kids. At work, at church, and in all relationships you have to be intentional.

If you want a better life you must be intentional.

Why is this drive to be purposeful important? Well I will say this. Being intentionally purposeful can have a huge impact on those around you.

If you are not intentional you will hurt your kids. You will not only hurt them today, you will hurt them for all of life. If you show them what it means to have a life of purpose you will not only impact your kids today but you will instill in them what it takes to have a better life. You will create a lifestyle of success. Success that will help eliminate divorces, pain, suffering and will replace this with wonderful marriages, success at work, and a good life all-around.

Friends, this is important. Be purposeful with your life because your kids will reap the results.

Ugh! I feel nasty. Just plain sick. Almost feel like throwing up. My head is rolling, can’t focus very well.
