Marsha and I have been praying and searching for a new name to share our message to the world. One where we can spread a message of hope and joy through pain and suffering. One that can look back on the lives of John Carter Rinard and Claire Rinard and extend a hand of hope to all the suffering children and parents in this world.

Tonight, I think we have found just the right name. It is Sparrow’s Heart. The site was just set up a few minutes ago and is basic, but will be developed rapidly, so please bookmark this site, and share it with others as we aim to be a shoulder for others.

Please keep in mind that this page in its current form not the final form and it will be regularly changing and being updated. We only put some placeholders that mean a lot to us to remind us all of how precious life is.

Cute little Miss Marlo dropped her big sister off at Huntington Beach, California today. It was a bit windy, but Marlo stayed toasty wrapped up, in a blanket and her hoodie!

Amazing Miss Marlo is doing well. She has been home now for almost 2 weeks! She is an amazing miracle. She has been doing so well, that the doctor doesn’t even need to see her often. The doctor told Marlo, that she will see her again in a month!

Long Awaited Day Has Arrived

I am not sure I have read very many posts that are more exciting than the post I am going to send you to momentarily. Long Awaited Day Post

Now of course mommy has all the work of a newborn, but even more a preemie which is much more work. She has the older kids to take care of, schooling, and selling/packing all the household goods, cars, the house, and a lot more. Wow, what an amazing lady. Truly, an amazing, gifted wife, mommy, and friend.

Marlo’s red hair is growing in fast as she gets closer to her original due date. Today is Marlo’s 12 week birthday, which puts her at less than 2 weeks until her due date!

Marlo is growing fast, and weighed in last night at 4 lbs 15oz! Interestingly enough, Marlo’s biggest sister, Alli who was full term when she was born, came home weighing exactly 4 lbs 15oz!

Right on!

Miss Marlo and the Daily Scare

Miss Marlo gave us a few scares yesterday, but I think they were not caused by her, but by a nurse not familiar with her ventilator. So, while I was picking Miss Marlo’s mom off the floor, we got everything calmed down. No, no, she didn’t really pass out, in fact she jumped to action since the nurse wasn’t paying attention. Marsha would make any child proud, she is quick to action, and isn’t scared to jump in and solve the problem! What a lady! It was scary, but if her normal nurse would have been there, and not on lunch, there would not have been a scare at all.

After the scare of the day from Miss Marlo’s many alarms, Marlo got to hold her mom for an hour! That is always so relaxing as Miss Marlo feels right at home as she melts into her mommy.

The night went well, and today her CO2 levels are quite a bit lower than the past two days. We are very excited, and can not wait to hear what the doctor had to say. Miss Marlo was also scheduled for another x-ray of her chest to follow-up on the pulmonary edema. This was done before the crack of dawn, and we are waiting for the results.

We are feeling very positive this morning about this past week, and feel we are moving forward.
~~ Oh yes! I forgot Little Miss Marlo went up to 4ml of her momma’s milk yesterday, and I hear she is going up again today if the results of the chest x-ray are fine!

Miss Marlo may just hit 2 lbs soon! Currently she is at 1lb 12 ½ oz.

Marlo Joy update – May 12, 2011 – 27 Weeks

Quick update on Thursday May 13, 2011.

Marlo Joy was taken off the Bili Light, she still has the Bili Blanket, but there is a chance that comes off on Friday!

Growing for Mommy and Daddy

Today, my big sisters and brother came and visited me for the first time!! I put on a good show for them, kicking my feet and moving around. I also got to show them my awesome blue lights! It was so much fun!

She was scheduled for a Heart Echo to see if the Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) has closed, or if it has opened. On Monday it was small, and all signs point to that it may be closed or still small. If this is closed then they will start her on a very very small amount of breast milk, that her mommy has been diligently pumping day and night.

Marlo also has a brain ultrasound scheduled for Friday morning to see if there is any bleeding in her brain. All signs point to a little or no brain bleed so far.

Marlo’s doctor has also requested another LP (Lumbar Puncture), to check for meningitis (scary due to Marlo’s brother Johnny). This may happen tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

Today, was a day we all celebrate as a victory! We pray tomorrow is another AWESOME Victorious day!! Please pray with us!

Anything but Smart

Do you know the problem with blogging? After a time you start to think you have think you need something to blog about or you need to sound smart. Before Facebook you could just blog, now Facebook and Twitter took the short and often meaningless posts away from blogs.

So my point in this blog post it to make me anything but smart. I am writing just because I am glad you care enough to come to JakeRinard.com. What is not to love about that?!

Headed to Las Vegas

Boise State Broncos are headed to the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas and we are headed there too! Being BSU fans, we are disappointed that we are not headed to a BCS bowl, but happy we get to show our stuff once again. This time we are pitted against Utah, a nationally ranked team.

Thank You God for My Family

Today I turn 35. It was a very downer year with the death of my baby son. As I pause and reflect on the year, I see some the down times, but I also see the wonderful times.

Currently I am watching my 3 older kids talk with their aunt as their mom is getting pumpkin pie ready after our wonderful Thanksgiving meal earlier today. This year has afforded me some time to hang out around the house and spend some time with my kids. This time has been very helpful to recover from the unexpected loss of not only our son, but my kid’s baby brother that they hoped for.

We have been able to spend a lot of time together and have traveled from California to Idaho to Ohio and New York. We have made a few trips to Idaho and spent time on the beautiful lake in McCall.

We have been able to go to Disneyland many times and Knott’s a few times as well. We have played, danced, cried, and laughed together.

I cherish the memories with all my wonderful kids and wife. I love them all and thank God for each of them.

Be Thankful in Adversity

“It is in adversity that you will find blessing if you choose to be thankful.”

This year has been one of learning for me. I had never been hit with death so close. I never expected to lose a child. I had wrongly assumed that life would follow a natural course and I would outlive my kids.

This year with the passing of my 8 day old son I am reminded that life is precious. You are never guaranteed any more than this moment. At any time the candle can be blown out.

I am challenged this year to appreciate what we have been given. Never take for granted what you have been given.

This year I have learned to choose to be thankful. I am thankful for my beautiful son, John Carter Rinard. His time was short with me, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. He is and always will be a part of me that is invaluable. For this I am thankful. I was blessed by his short life. I remember him kicking me while he was in his mommy’s tummy. The time I took his mommy, brother, and sisters to an ultrasound and he rolled over and the kids were amazed at his beauty perfect body.

I am thankful for the moments this year.

It is in adversity that you will find blessing if you choose to be thankful.

It’s the Small Things | Focus on Disneyland

Going to Disneyland when you are a kid makes many memories. From walking down Main Street and going through the Magic Shop to riding Peter Pan, or for those Adrenaline Junkie 10 year olds the Matterhorn.

I have always been a roller coaster freak, and since I could walk was going on rides. I love roller coasters to say the least. I remember going on the first roller coaster to go upside down at the Lagoon in Salt Lake City. Not only did I get on it, I talked my cousin into going on it back to back to back. On the 12th trip through the short line for the Colossus, my cousin barfed. I was embarrassed so badly that I quickly headed to get in line again, dragging my cousin with me as she wiped her face.

Some of my youngest memories are from my trips to Disneyland. I remember the rides, the shows, the good food, and so many other things. But what stands out to me the most, and I am still reminded when I go to parks, is how Disneyland paid attention to the small things.

Even though I was young, I noticed how everything looked so clean. Everything always seemed to be new. My parents explained to me how each night when the park closes, the real work for Disney employees begin. They use hundreds and thousands of gallons of paint each night, to keep the handrails and everything painted, just like when it was brand new and shiny.

The park is scrubbed, washed, and repaired. Disney knew that they had to pay special attention to the small things, for people to enjoy and keep spending the cash.

It is the small things that matter. Disney knew how to do it.

In church it takes everyone to focus on the little things and keep the shine.

The challenge is to keep things in tip top shape, and I don’t just mean the hand rails. We have to make sure WE are in tip top shape. I continue my schooling still today, in order to improve myself. When working with staff we have meetings to focus on the wins and improve in any and all areas possible. In marriage I hope we are all working on improving, and making life better for our spouse! Wouldn’t your spouse be surprised if you came home better?!
Possibly slap on some paint!

Let’s take a lesson from Disneyland and remember that It’s the Small Things!

But, it HURTS

Marsha very rarely does things without planning them. She doesn’t need a lot of time to plan, but she definitely likes to know what she is doing before she does it. She is fine with things like Disneyland, renting a cabin for the weekend, and other such things as long as she knows in advance.

If you spring it on her 5 minutes before it is time, good luck. She isn’t going to do it. If she does do it well… then it was a modern day miracle.

Just over a week ago Marsha called me and asked if she should get braces, the very next day she had them on. This is quite shocking as I just explained.

She wrote a funny blog post titled “Oh, what a week its been” about getting her braces.

I was looking forward to making fun of her for the next year as she straightened her teeth. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to work out. You see, today I came home with braces on my bottom teeth.

They say the older you are the worse they hurt. Well, I am 5 days older than Marsha, so I suppose I can still make fun of her when she whines about the pain.

This of course is just one of the beginning steps to solving my dental problems that began back in 2nd grade when I bust my teeth out on the elementary school floors. Some pain, and $20 grand later and I may get them almost as good as new.
