Boise State vs. Air Force and DFW

I am traveling to Dallas/Fort Worth area over the weekend. I am looking forward to meeting some new friends and seeing my family. It is a quick trip, but will be a great one.

While away I will miss the Boise State football game. This I of course do not like. Being back in the States, I am so happy that I have the Versus TV channel where Boise State is playing host to Air Force. Being an airman myself makes this game an even more exciting one (if that is possible). I am sad to miss it live, but will have it on the DVR, and watch it with my son when I get back.

Air Force could be a surprisingly tough opponent. Their offense just may be pretty tough for our defense. It should be a much better opponent than Colorado State was.

My family in Fort Worth will have to do their best to not let the outcome of the game be known to me. This will be tough, but I hope they can do it.

Marlo Update and Chuck E Cheese

It has been a week since I posted! Crazy, up and down roller coaster. Marlo has stolen my heart! She is amazing, 2lb miracle. It is up and down just like a roller coaster.

She is fighting, and getting stronger. The PDA in her heart is still open, but the doctors are giving her some diuretic to close it. If it closes this week, we will be relieved.

Today we took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese to have some fun with their Aunt, Uncle, and cousin Rocco. While we were there we were able to give a bunch of tickets to another boy that we didn’t know. The boy was so happy, and then the grandpa came and spoke to us about how happy he was. He then informed us he owned a bike store in Rialto, California and he wanted to give us all new bikes! Wow, what an awesome offer!

Tomorrow it the last day of school for our kids, and this is bitter sweet. They love the activities that come with school, and all the parties they have been involved in, but glad to have school over with for the summer.

Next week, their grandma will be back! She will keep us all on track.

It is late, and I am signing out.

Held My Daughter for the First Time

I held my daughter. It is a wonderful feeling. She is so tiny, so fragile, and so loved.

Last year I lost a son when he was 8 days old, and the loss of holding your child is more than I can explain. Today, I held my 9 day old daughter for the first time. It is an amazing feeling as the love flows as our skin touches – heals and warms.

Starbucks Trenta | 31 Ounces of Love for Premature Labor

Today has been a bit slower day in the hospital for the baby and mom. This is the news we desire. We are day to day, and each day is vitally important. I have read that a 25 week baby has a 3 – 4% greater chance of survival for each day.

The doctor told us this morning that they medicine being used to stop the contractions can possibly begin losing its effectiveness, at which point we will need to switch to another type of medicine. We like the medicine she is on now, since it does not cross over to the baby. So, pray for the effectiveness to stay strong!

The other awesome kids are doing quite well. They are keeping up with their school work, helping around the house, and today my daughters are going grocery shopping with my debit card! Like we did not have enough scary things already!

On a good note, I noticed today that Starbucks had come out with their Trenta size, which is 31 ounces of iced coffee, or as the Starbucks Barista told me, 31 ounces of love!

It is helping me get through the day, as I am exhausted, and haven’t slept well this week at all. I am a sleep talker and walker, and when anxiety or excitement is high, I find myself seeing all sorts of weird things in my sleep which keeps me from good sleep, and wakes me constantly through the night.

John Carter Rinard – Happy 1st Birthday

I am blessed beyond anything I could have imagined, a I have 2 beautiful daughters, 2 beautiful sons, and 2 more daughters on the way. My youngest son was born one year ago tomorrow (Sunday April 11, 2010), and passed away when we was 8 days old.

This past year has been one that no one should ever go through. It is not something I can explain, or expect anyone to understand.

Each week on Johnny’s due date – birthday, I sang Happy Birthday to Johnny while he was in his momma’s tummy. His mommy would help me out when the tune wasn’t going so well. The older kids joined in, when they were around. The day he was born, with all of us around, we sang Happy Birthday Johnny. Being just a few hours old, we all could tell that he finally recognized something in this strange new place. He looked around, and even let out a squelch of emotion when the song was over. We have a video of this precious memory to each of us.

Little Johnny, your brother and sisters are as proud as can be. Your mommy, daddy, and siblings prayed to have you for a decade. You are an answer to our prayers, and you are so loved from before we even knew you.

Little Johnny, we miss you. Our heart aches for you, but we push forward, excited about the day we will be reunited with you. For now, we try to comfort ourselves knowing that you are in Heaven, hopefully playing baseball with your Uncle Phil, and hanging out with your Grandpa John (among others). We would give anything to have you back in our arms, and sitting in your high chair so we can sing Happy Birthday on your 1st birthday.

I assume you would be walking by now and beginning to talk. Your brother and sisters had so much to show you, and your mommy and daddy wanted to watch you grow.

I am not sure how to push forward everyday, but we do. Sometimes not so successfully, and other days I feel like we are making it, one step at a time. Sometimes a step backwards (mostly for your daddy), and then your mommy pulls me back into shape.

I am sitting here looking at your picture. You are a handsome boy, and tomorrow we will sing you Happy Birthday with tears in our eyes.

We miss you, Johnny.

Cambodia and Hong Kong Here I Come

I purchased my ticket yesterday for a trip to Cambodia and Hong Kong. I am really excited to visit my cousin in Cambodia and then travel to Hong Kong and explore the city.

This is an entirely new part of the globe for me to explore and one I have really wanted to visit for quite some time. Over the next couple of weeks I may post the possibilities of what I may do while I am there.

Anything but Smart

Do you know the problem with blogging? After a time you start to think you have think you need something to blog about or you need to sound smart. Before Facebook you could just blog, now Facebook and Twitter took the short and often meaningless posts away from blogs.

So my point in this blog post it to make me anything but smart. I am writing just because I am glad you care enough to come to JakeRinard.com. What is not to love about that?!

Train Ride to Home

I am on the train currently sitting backwards on the train. Sitting backwards is just like the old station wagons with the rear seat facing the car behind you. Wave, smile, make faces, and then try to pretend like you don’t see each other.

Riding trains to and from work is pretty nice. What makes it a proud moment is knowing that your dad is directly responsible for commuter trains in Los Angeles and the surrounding counties. Many people credit him as the reason things actually got done in the first place. Yes, a proud son riding the train to work.

It also gives you time to relax and think about the day. We all need to take some time to plan the day ahead or reflect on the day and what we accomplished.

Today I fired up my notebook and got on the internet to do a little post as well as talk to my mother in Australia. All in a train ride to home.

Are you Fruity?

Yesterday my sister-in-law Melissa posted the fruit of the spirit on Facebook. Some of us have been going through some issues and been down and out to say the least. Seriously when one looks at his life, are these traits being exhibited?

We should ask ourselves if we are showing love. Are we joyful? Do our actions promote peace, patience, kindness, and goodness? Are we gentle with each other or are we rough in our words, actions, and thoughts?

I know that I need to have the self control in many areas just to practice the above traits! Today, be encouraged because we can choose to exhibit these things and as we choose the fruits of the spirit God will do a work in each of us!

Galatians 5:22-25

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Night of Comedy at Crossroads

Tonight I was invited to head over to Crossroads church in Corona for a night of comedy. It was a blast. The main acts were Michael Rayner and Robert G. Lee. Both were very good and definitely good for the whole family.

Excellent night filled with great fun. If you ever get the chance to see Michael Rayner you need to take the opportunity and bring the kids. He is very good and you can just tell he is a fun guy. Definitely a guy that you just like from the beginning.

It was a great time with some good friends. Great job Crossroads!

Twins of Babies

Wow, time is sure flying by. Here it is almost February and I haven’t posted in this great new year of 2011. Most of you know I am sure from Facebook that we are expecting ~~ twins!

Surprise Surprise! Crazy how Facebook have ruined the need for most personal websites. Truly it is unfortunate, but ultimately Facebook is better for the social needs of people.

The twins have been quite the news and even more of a miracle than people know. We had more than 1 doctor tell us that there was no hope for these babies to make it. Yet, here we are entering the 13th week of pregnancy with 2 beautiful babies.

This is only 1 of them, and yes there is another beautiful baby. The ultrasound tech didn’t give us as good of a picture so I didn’t post it here.

Lot’s more exciting news to come. Big things are always in the works.

Be Thankful in Adversity

“It is in adversity that you will find blessing if you choose to be thankful.”

This year has been one of learning for me. I had never been hit with death so close. I never expected to lose a child. I had wrongly assumed that life would follow a natural course and I would outlive my kids.

This year with the passing of my 8 day old son I am reminded that life is precious. You are never guaranteed any more than this moment. At any time the candle can be blown out.

I am challenged this year to appreciate what we have been given. Never take for granted what you have been given.

This year I have learned to choose to be thankful. I am thankful for my beautiful son, John Carter Rinard. His time was short with me, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. He is and always will be a part of me that is invaluable. For this I am thankful. I was blessed by his short life. I remember him kicking me while he was in his mommy’s tummy. The time I took his mommy, brother, and sisters to an ultrasound and he rolled over and the kids were amazed at his beauty perfect body.

I am thankful for the moments this year.

It is in adversity that you will find blessing if you choose to be thankful.

Have the King as a Friend

Proverbs 22:11 (NLT)
“Whoever loves a pure heart and gracious speech will have the king as a friend.”

As you go throughout the day, how do you speak to and about others? Do you speak with a pure heart and is your speech kind and thoughtful? Are you slow to anger? Do you build others up with your encouraging words?

I am constantly working on this area of my life. Being kind and gentle with my words so that people can know my heart. We must choose to be gracious with our speech.

This scripture says that if we love a pure heart and because of this love we desire and work towards this purity, and our speech is filled with grace towards others, that our friend will be the King.

I desire to be a friend of the true King, and I am sure you do as well. I want to encourage you today to thirst for purity and work to spread love through your grace filled words today. Spread some joy, spread some love, with your thoughts.

Have the King as a Friend!
