Boise State vs. Air Force and DFW

I am traveling to Dallas/Fort Worth area over the weekend. I am looking forward to meeting some new friends and seeing my family. It is a quick trip, but will be a great one.

While away I will miss the Boise State football game. This I of course do not like. Being back in the States, I am so happy that I have the Versus TV channel where Boise State is playing host to Air Force. Being an airman myself makes this game an even more exciting one (if that is possible). I am sad to miss it live, but will have it on the DVR, and watch it with my son when I get back.

Air Force could be a surprisingly tough opponent. Their offense just may be pretty tough for our defense. It should be a much better opponent than Colorado State was.

My family in Fort Worth will have to do their best to not let the outcome of the game be known to me. This will be tough, but I hope they can do it.

Go BSU!

Countdown To Home Has Begun

My countdown to home has begun, and I can’t wait. It will have been 6 weeks. 6 weeks away is far too long. The time before this was 8 weeks away – FAR TOO LONG! It is great to have work, and a paycheck. We definitely count our blessings. But, nothing takes the place of “us”.

This trip home will be so different than the last trip home. My last trip was spent in the hospital, except for the day we took the kids to Disneyland, and the days I felt I may be sick (not worth the risk of being in a NICU spreading germs). It was hard to come back to Australia, while little Marlo was still in the hospital. Now, when I go home I will be greeted by Marlo! She will welcome me home. How wonderful.

All of my kids in the same house! The older kids are deep into school, and I hear they are doing quite well. I have a sophomore, freshmen, and a 7th grader! Just a few days, and we will ALL be together at our home!

Family, such a wonderful thing.

Cambodia| Falling In Love with the People

I am sitting in the Phnom Penh Frequent Fliers Club reflecting on the past week here with my cousin, the people we crossed paths with, the tuk tuk accidents, the people and church in the slums, the friends I made, and all the great food we ate together.

What stands out to me most besides the time with my cousin is the friendliness of the people. I really enjoyed the time due to the people so willing to do well at their jobs and please the people they were serving. They don’t do it for large tips, in fact in their culture tipping is not the custom. I really liked this about them. Their smiles and the somewhat common twinkle in their eye was very welcoming.

The story of Cambodia is quite a rough one that many people really are not that aware. There has been brutal times where they suffered brutally at the hands of their own people. Yet, today they push forward trying to trust and willing to work.

I hope to come back and bring my family with me. I know they will fall in love as I have.

Make Like a Baby –> Heading Out

I am about to pack up and head home. I have had a wonderful, wonderful time in this beautiful country with great people.

It is going to be great to be back and see my family!

Networking in Phnom Penh and Planning for the 1 Year Mark Since Johnny

Busy days for sure. I am a great at networking as well bringing people together is what I am told.

Just got done with a meeting with the Head of the International school. Definitely a great program is being run at Newbridge International School in Phnom Penh.

Now I am off to a meeting with the SW Friend’s Yearly Meeting missionaries. They have quite a tragic story that I can definitely relate to with the death of my son last April.

HEY -
Speaking of that, we are looking for a few days of et-a-way time around April 19th the day my son was taken of the ventilator. Anyone have any ideas or options? Do you possibly know of someone that has a house in Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear that isn’t being used? April 20th, the day after Johnny’s passing is our 17th anniversary. We were thinking of going somewhere with the kids and just enjoying each other’s company.

I have to run now. Let me know, email or comments below.

Tonight I Went to Church in the Slums of Cambodia

Tonight I went to church in the slums of Phnom Penh. It was very eye opening. What is amazing is how friendly and happy people seem to be towards each other and to us visitors.

More to report later.

Through the Eye of a Needle : Cambodian Slums

Quick recap:

Yesterday I went to Emily’s Northbridge International School. It is such ha beautiful campus.

I met with a ministry that is working to get a Big Brother Big Sister sort of idea going to the families in the slum. They are already doing quite a job it seems.

Last night we had church/update meeting with a group of people working with the Big Brother program above. It was such an amazing diverse group. The leader was French. There were Cambodians, Cambodian/Swiss/Raised in France, Polish from Switzerland, Phillipines, and of course 2 Americans (my cousin went with me).

A Cambodian girl gave a message and story of something that recently happened in a village. Her heart was so beautiful and the impact of God using her is amazing!

It was an awesome and encouraging time.

I have been invited to go to a small group that meets in one of the many slums tonight. I am very excited to see God moving!

Meetings with Ministries in Phnom Penh

Today I has breakfast at my cousin’s school which is called Northbridge International School. It is a very impressive school and is extremely well run. The facilities are quite amazing and the staff seem top notch and very friendly.

I meet with Timothée Paton at the Eden Cafe in a few minutes. Both Tim and Eden Cafe are doing some awesome ministry things in Cambodia. I am very excited to talk to them about what is happening in Cambodia.

…. Pictures soon …. I hope.
