It is amazing to me when I think about it how far we have come in the last week and half. I was fearful that we might not make it out of week 25 of this pregnancy, and now we are half way to week 27!
I am sure some of you don’t know the stats that I now have on the back of my eyelids.
You see at 25 weeks babies have about a 50% chance of survival and twins have less than that. That is not a nice percentage.
At week 26 a single pregnancy jumps all the way to about 80% chance of survival. This feels so much better than a 50/50 chance of living, but even 80% means that 20% don’t make it. None of this takes into account the high chances of disabilities.
With each day, the chance of survival goes up, and disability goes down. It is a painfully slow ticking of the clock, but I realized tonight we are just about half way done with week 26 and almost over the hump towards week 27!
Week 27 is not in the clear, it has many many dangers. The baby will spend months in the NICU and have many rough days. It is just better odds than week 26, so tonight we celebrate being almost half way done with week 26, something a week ago never looked like it was coming.
Week 27 — You are in our sights!!
Thank you God!
