Save money on Travel

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: Travel, families, finance, misc - Tags: , ,

I travel more than the average person. I would say half of my travels are for work and the other half for pleasure. I like to take a lot of weekend trips with the wife and kids to just get away. A time to relax and get away from the hustle of life.

The other weekend I took my wife to New Orleans for a quick vacation. There is hardly a time when I am not planning a trip. Many people have asked how I do this so cheaply.

Well, it isn’t hard. I research my trips online and use Expedia, Travelocity, and other internet vacation booking sites. As I always have ideas of where and what I want to do, this allows me to look 1-2 times per week for good deals. When I find a good travel deal I am ready to lock it in.

From week to week travel prices can vary by quite a bit. So plan ahead and watch for the travel deals. Travel insurance is also something to look into. Sometimes I purchase it on sites like Orbitz and travelocity. I don’t pay more than $10 - $15 total for travel insurance unless it is a trip over $300. It is worth the risk to me. When I am planning the vacations since I have to be ready to jump on a travel deal sometimes the travel insurance has come in handy in case I must cancel a trip.

Just another way I save money on my travels. More travel saving tips to come.

Top Home School books

Written by: Jake Rinard - Posted in: families, misc - Tags: , ,

I wrote a webpage awhile back on the Top Home school Books. I took this from various sources. Are you a homeschooler? If so what are some of your top school book resources?

This year we plan on using the Abeka online video teaching system for our curriculum. We are pretty excited about this curriculum. We paid the extra money for the accredited system with a real teach that will go through the assignments and everything a public school teacher does.

This type of school has the benefits of home school, while gaining the benefits of a brick and mortar school. You also get to save all the traveling costs and other negatives that go along with school.
